Hamilton Trust gives wider appeal to teachers with new online resource

National education charity Hamilton Trust has completed the first phase of the overhaul of its online strategy, with the launch of a new flagship website hamilton-trust.org.uk.

Hamilton Trust is one of the UK’s leading resources for primary school teachers and its website, which is accessed by tens of thousands of users, is the cornerstone of its delivery.

The new site has been designed and built by Oxford web developer White October, and sets out to achieve more engagement with the charity’s existing audiences and widen Hamilton Trust’s appeal to even more teachers.  This first phase provides extensive, coherent National Curriculum plans and a multitude of resources to primary school teachers to help ensure high-quality teaching and learning in the classroom. It has been designed to give easy access to over 10,000 pages of content.

Project manager Stephen Thomas explains how White October approached the challenge: “The Hamilton Trust website is used by teachers of all levels of experience and it often acts as a lifeline for extremely busy and newly qualified teachers who benefit from the structured and comprehensive curriculum content.  The new site is much easier to use, helping teachers to access what they need more quickly.  In our solution we have made the site feel familiar, so existing users are comfortable using it, while giving Hamilton Trust new options to help more teachers to find content that is relevant for them.”

Hamilton-Trust.org.uk is Drupal-based to provide a solid platform for future developments.  It is now easier to discover content, and re-built e-commerce capability streamlines donations and payments. There are also significant improvements on efficiency and responsiveness on desktops, tablets and mobile devices. Internal processes are simplified, freeing up time for Hamilton Trust staff to focus on further content development and engagement with users.

Over 100,000 users of the existing Hamilton Trust site have already been migrated to the new site, and new hosting enables it to scale up with demand.
