When we co-founded Digital Oxford a few years ago we were driven by the belief that Oxford has all the ingredients for one of the UK’s key digital hubs along the lines of Bristol, Manchester and Brighton.  It’s a world class centre for higher education and research; is commutable to London; many global tech organisations are already based here; and it has a dynamic, sociable community of creatives, developers, entrepreneurs and people working in the digital marketplace.

We weren’t wrong.  Today, Digital Oxford has real potential to become the ‘go to’ for all things digital in and around the city.  You name it …. jobs, services, ideas, finance … you’ll find it in one of the networking groups, workshops and conferences which are hosted under the Digital Oxford banner.

A ‘digital event’ happens in and around Oxford almost every week throughout the year and many people tend to follow their usual groups.  So, to help everyone see more of what Digital Oxford has to offer, we are putting together Digital Oxford Week.

In just six days from May 12 to 18, you can experience just about every type of ‘happening’ under the Digital Oxford banner and, to give you a taster, here are a few of our favourites …

Professor Sir Muir Gray, Chief Knowledge Officer to the NHS,will share his vision for the future of digital health within the NHS.  This Digital Health Oxford event is a favourite of ours, offering a rare chance to hear from an eminent source about issues that affect all of us.  Digital Health Oxford, 7pm, Monday May 12, Oxford Martin School.

Information overload is something everyone suffers from no matter what industry they’re in.  Oxford Publishing Society has invited three leading lights in electronic publishing to discuss how to maintain a sustainable business model, drawing on real world case studies. Oxford Publishing Society, 6.30pm, Tuesday May 13, Oxford Brookes.  Membership required.

Does your organisation have a director of digital?  If not, chances are it will do before too long.  David Mathison, a founder of the Chief Digital Officer Club flies in from New York to share his research on the global trends driving the emergence of this new type of leadership role.  Oxford Media Technology & Finance Network, 6pm, Monday May 12, Oxford Playhouse.  Invitation only.

And finally, our big event of the year, jQueryUK will draw nearly 700 web developers to hear speakers from around the world sharing their ideas on topics and technologies driving front-end web development.  Another New Yorker, designer and host of The Web Ahead podcast Jen Simmons, will open the 650 strong conference with her talk ‘A Love Letter to HTML’ a a great kick-off for what will be an inspiring, productive and sociable day. jQueryUK, all day from 8.30am, Friday May 16, The King’s Centre, Oxford

Talking of sociable, there are plenty of opportunities to meet up with like-minded digital socialites, such as the Oxford Python/JS Oxford Mega Meetup at the St Aldates Tavern.  May 14, 7.30pm, St Aldate’s Tavern, Oxford

So join us to celebrate a whole week of all things Digital in Oxford.  And email Dave if you’d like to get involved in any way.
